Henry Clay's Lexington estate, begun around 1806 and worked by the people he enslaved, among them Charlotte Dupuy, who sued for her freedom in 1829. His son rebuilt the mansion in 1854-57 on the original footprint; it has been a house museum since 1950 and is a National Historic Landmark.
