Lexington's Catholic cathedral, built from 1965 to 1967 to a design by architect Edward J. Schulte in a modern, late Art Deco style, with a tall spire rising over pale stone walls. The parish began in 1945, and the church became a cathedral in 1988 when the Diocese of Lexington was created.
