First Impressions is a monumental sculpture that invites visitors to engage with the deep history of both the land and humanity. This work takes the form of a giant Maclurite fossil, the ancient gastropod whose shell helped create the limestone beneath Lexington. Comprised of 117 interlocking precast concrete panels, the piece serves as both an interactive sculpture and a timeline of Earth's—and Kentucky's—history.
